I agree on all your points; you obviously understand exactly what you're talking about. For some odd reason I just felt the need to defend V8's. Sometimes I wonder if people create a false image of V8's in their mind because of the applications they're used in. Example: just because a Mustang's only real strength is straight line acceleration, does not mean that is the motor's only strength. There are certainly times while driving turbocharged cars where I have wished for instant torque and a raw, linear powerband - and not just on the drag strip.
